Grant ancestors from Wales and England?

While doing some family research, I have found some "Graunt" ancestors in Wales during the late 1300s and early 1400s, a "De Graunt" in England in the early 1400s, the spelling in mid- or late 1400s was changed to "Grant" (my ancestor line still residing in Yorkshire, England at the time), and a "Grant" (of female gender) of the 1600s who migrated from England to Connecticut.

Why would my Graunt/Grant ancestors reside in Wales and...
